I was introduced to flavored moonshine at a Super Bowl party. Wow! It’s good! Have you tried any? If not, you need to put trying some on your to do list but with a little caution. It’s really good, but the effects can sneak up on you. The few moonshines I have tried are smooth and flavorful. They come in lovely flavors like pumpkin pie, apple spice, and berry. And they compliment everything from coffee to margaritas. In honor of Cinco de Mayo and awesome moonshine, here is my recipe for a kickin’ Moonshine Margarita.
Margaritas are my drink of choice. I am at an age that I don’t care about drinking fruity shots or some fancy cocktail that really doesn’t taste good. I like margaritas. I like them on the rocks. I am 50/50 with the salt. I don’t like most well tequilas. And, I rarely drink out, so when I do I pay the extra couple of dollars for the better tequila. I have even gotten where I don’t love cheap margarita mix. I like a homemade mix or real fruit added. Cheap margarita mix sometimes has a thick after taste. When it gets down to it, homemade margaritas are pretty awesome. And adding Blackberry Moonshine just adds to the awesomeness.
We spent last summer trying different fruity margaritas. Fresh fruit is a great addition to any margarita. We particularly loved fresh blackberries. So when we found Blackberry Moonshine, I knew it would be perfect for a margarita. When you pick out your moonshine make sure to check the proof. The proof of moonshine varies greatly, and it is a good idea to know how boozy you are making your margaritas. I swear moonshine is good and the higher proof will very much sneak up on you!
One of the things that I love about the flavored moonshine is the real fruit soaking in the jar. It gives the moonshine a fabulous flavor, and you get to eat the boozy fruit at the bottom of your drink. I also love that you can drink the moonshine straight. It’s good, but it has a major kick. I enjoy it much more in a cocktail or mixed with lemonade.
Are you new to making your own margaritas? Not sure which tequila to buy? Figuring out which quality tequila to buy can be overwhelming. Four years ago, I only new José. Then I learned about 1800 because of the commercials with Christopher from the Sopranos. I was very clueless! But that has changed through a little trial and error. I enjoy expensive tequilas, but there are also several great tasting tequilas with a more palatable price tag.
Moonshine Margarita is a fun twist on the classic Margarita. Recipe only for those 21 years of age or older!
- 2.5 oz Tequila
- 1.5 oz Moonshine I used Blackberry
- 1 oz Triple Sec
- 4 oz to 6 Lemonade or Margarita Mix
- Margarita Salt
Rub the rim of your glass with water and then salt glass. Add Tequila, Moonshine, Triple Sec, and Mix to a shaker and give a good shake. Pour into your salted glass and add ice. We like to sit our margaritas in the freezer for about 5 minutes to help them get a little colder.
