Do you love Walt Disney World? Are you a frugal Disney lover? Are you going on your first WDW trip and looking for a good Disney Budget Tip?
I am a numbers driven former accountant that has a closet love for Disney (not so closet anymore). Walt Disney World trips are so much fun but they are a big expense. They are definitely the most expensive trips my family has gone on but they also are the source of sweet memories, great joy and amazing food (food lovers unite!).
What if that big expense could be spread out? We spent $3000 on our last Walt Disney World Vacation ($428 per day). What if that expense brought more than seven days of fun. What if we continued to enjoy that trip for 2 years or 730 days ($4 per day). HMMMM?! Have you ever thought of your trip expenses in that way. Spreading the joy of a Walt Disney World vacation to longer periods of time makes the large expense a lot easier to swallow and keeps the pixie dust magic alive.
Disney Budget Tip: Keep Enjoying Your Trip
The time we take as a family to step away from work, school and daily responsibilities is special. And it seems that this focused time gets more and more limited. Vacation is one of the few times each year that many families get to slow down and enjoy each other. And, you know your kids will remember the laughter, adventure and fun of vacations for the rest of their lives. Vacations are anchor memories for families. I know my kids love to relive the memories of vacations over and over again. They love talking about our crazy rainy day in Epcot, the sweet baby gorillas in Animal Kingdon, Jedi Training at Hollywood Studios and Mickey waffles at Magic Kingdom. Your budget may limit the number of vacations you go on but your budget doesn’t limit the memories. Keep enjoying that amazing vacation with these tips!
DON’T STASH IT AND FORGET IT
Do you feel super behind on life when you get home from vacation? You have to run to the grocery store and do all the laundry from the trip. And it always seems like the week you get back is super busy with activities and you CANNOT miss any of them because you just missed everything last week while you were having a rockin’ good time at Walt Disney World. So whether you took your own pictures or purchased Memory Maker (we got this last time and LOVED the pictures from our trip), you just have to put those pictures aside for now. Then you forget about them because you are so busy doing regular life. Make a date to look at them with the whole family. Seriously, write it on the calendar!
Disney pictures are so much fun. They help the entire family remember the tiniest details of each trip. So looking at pictures from the last trip is truly like reliving the fun. The funny moments, the moment your kids met Merida, sweated like crazy in Jedi Training, or your whole day was a rainout.
And what about the souvenirs? Where did you stash all the goodies from your trip? Have you put autograph books away for safe keeping? Are your kids playing with their Disney mementos or have they accidentally been forgotten? Go grab those souvenirs and autograph books and enjoy them. Talk about the cool character meet ups you had or the neat store you bought them in.
THE BEST FRIDAY NIGHT
Kids love movie nights! There is nothing better than snuggling up, putting away phones, and enjoying an evening together. We always try to have a special food or treat to go along with the movie like pizza, brownies, cookie dough, or kale chips (my kids are obsessed?!). Disney themed movie night is the perfect night for a treat. Enjoy a Disney goodie at home that you enjoyed at the park!
Here are a great list of yummy recipes to get you ready for an awesome Disney themed movie night. And you can follow this Disney Copycat Recipes Pinterest Board for even more ideas.
A REALLY COOL DISNEY BUDGET TIP: SMK
Have you heard of Sorcerers of Magic Kingdom? It is a FREE (awesome Disney budget tip) game you can play at Magic Kingdom. Each day you visit the park you can pick a free pack of cards (for each ticket holder present) from the Firehouse on Main Street. They give you the cards, teach you how to play the game, and give you a map. Then you follow secret clues through all of the lands to try to defeat different Disney villains.
On our last trip, we had the best time playing Sorcerers of Magic Kingdom. And after we were home we found this Sorcerers of Magic Kingdom game board so we could keep playing the game between WDW trips. You will LOVE that SMK is a cooperative game (everyone works together). And if you didn’t play at on your last Disney trip it is not a problem because the game board also includes a set of cards to help you get started enjoying SMK. When we are needing a little Disney fix we pull out the game and play.
If you have never played Sorcerers of Magic Kingdom but want to on your next trip this guide helped us figure everything out ahead of time.
YOUR FAVORITE RIDES REMEMBERED
YouTube is so cool. I was given the best tip before my last trip, let your kids watch any rides on YouTube that they are uncertain about so they can decide if it is a ride they will enjoy. This tip helped my youngest (an uncertain rider) try a few new rides and my oldest (a ride lover) to branch out and try bigger rides.
The cool thing is now that you are home, you can rewatch these same videos from your favorite rides or shows. You can even check out new rides and dream about your next adventure.
MOMMY BRAIN BREAK AND DISNEY BUDGET TIP ALL IN ONE
Do you listen to podcasts? I didn’t that often until the last few months and it has become one of my favorite mommy brain breaks. You can listen to podcasts during a workout, when you are folding/putting away laundry, cooking dinner or waiting for your kids to be done with an activity.
Disney podcasts can help you keep up with new rides and events at Disney, reminisce about your last WDW trip and get awesome Disney planning tips for your next trip. Best of all listening to Disney podcasts is a lot more fun and happy than spending time on Facebook!
